On Tuesday, 21 January 2025, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in a public session titled “Diplomacy Amid Disorder” as part of the World Economic Forum 2025 held in Davos, Switzerland.
During his participation in the session, His Highness affirmed that the Middle East region possesses tremendous potential that qualifies it to aspire toward a better future despite the challenges it faces and the recent risks it has experienced. His Highness pointed out that the current developments in Syria, Lebanon, and the Gaza Strip appear positive and encouraging.
Regarding Syria, His Highness stated that the Syrian people have great capabilities and are incredibly resourceful, providing a real opportunity to take Syria in a positive direction. His Highness emphasized the importance of international community engagement in fostering this process and supporting the Syrian people in achieving a better future vision.
His Highness the Foreign Minister noted that the Kingdom has observed a strong willingness from the new Syrian government to engage with regional partners and the international community. His Highness referenced his meeting with the Foreign Minister of the new Syrian administration in Riyadh, and his participation in the Riyadh meetings on Syria hosted by the Kingdom hosted last week.
His Highness stressed the importance of lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria to enable everyone to provide assistance to the Syrian people. Prince Faisal also highlighted that the Kingdom had taken the initiative to provide early humanitarian and relief aid as part of its efforts to alleviate humanitarian suffering in Syria.
On the Lebanese issue, His Highness considered the election of a new president in Lebanon after a prolonged period of political vacuum to be “a very positive development.” His Highness emphasized the need for Lebanon to continue implementing serious reforms that reflect its aspiration for a better future. His Highness also expressed his hope that the Lebanese people themselves will assume responsibility for making decisions that will steer their country toward a different and more stable path.
